Fantasy Football Rankings 2022: Sleepers, breakouts, busts by NFL model that called Taylor’s big year

Cordarrelle Patterson was one of the biggest Fantasy football breakouts last season, as he resurrected his career in Atlanta. Incredibly, Patterson finished with more receiving yards as the starting running back for the Falcons than he did as a receiver in any of his previous stops. Atlanta has three other players besides Patterson in its running back room after all NFL teams had to trim their rosters down to 53, but where do they belong in your 2022 Fantasy football rankings? The Falcons drafted former BYU running back Tyler Allgeier in the fifth round of the NFL Draft, and the expectation that his tough running style will help dial back the punishment that Patterson took at the end of last season. The rookie’s usage should make him relevant on some level this year, but will he get enough touches to emerge as one the top 2022 Fantasy football breakouts? Before setting your 2022 Fantasy football draft strategy, be sure to check out the 2022 Fantasy football cheat sheets from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Last year, the model accurately predicted that Colts running back Jonathan Taylor was being dramatically undervalued. Taylor was being drafted behind running backs like Aaron Jones, Ezekiel Elliott and Austin Ekeler last season but the SportsLine projection model predicted that he’d outproduce all of those backs and be a fixture in your Fantasy football lineups. The result: Taylor led the NFL with 1,811 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns to finish as the overall RB1 in 2021.

The same model has a proven track record providing Fantasy football tips, also identifying A.J. Brown as another sleeper in 2020 and players like Julio Jones and JuJu Smith-Schuster as Fantasy football busts last season. Additionally, it’s called past Fantasy football sleepers like Derrick Henry in 2019, Christian McCaffrey and Alvin Kamara in 2018, and Davante Adams in 2017. Anybody who banked on players like those made a run at their league title.

The model is powered by the same people who generated projections for all three major Fantasy sites, and it beat human experts last season when there was a big difference in ranking. The projections update multiple times daily, so you’re always getting the best Fantasy football advice.

Now, SportsLine has simulated the entire NFL season 10,000 times and released its latest Fantasy football rankings 2022, along with plenty of sleepers, breakouts and busts. Head to SportsLine now to see them

Top 2022 Fantasy football sleepers

One of the 2022 Fantasy football sleepers the model is predicting: Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Many Fantasy owners are shying away from Tannehill after Tennessee traded A.J. Brown in April, but SportsLine’s model does not believe his numbers will see much regression this year. The Titans immediately replaced Brown with another big body on the outside in rookie Treylon Burks.

Tennessee could also shift to a more pass-heavy attack as it looks to lessen the workload for star running back Derrick Henry, who is coming off a serious foot injury. Tannehill’s ability to run the ball should not go unnoticed either, as he rushed for 270 yards and seven touchdowns on 55 carries last year. He is being selected behind Matt Ryan, Jameis Winston and Tua Tagovailoa in most drafts, but SportsLine’s model expects him to have a better season than all three of those quarterbacks. See more Fantasy football sleepers 2022 here.

Top 2022 Fantasy football breakouts

The model is also projecting Raiders running back Zamir White as one of its top 2022 Fantasy football breakouts. The running back situation became much clearer in Las Vegas after NFL teams trimmed their rosters down to the final 53 players, and Kenyan Drake was among the Raiders’ cuts. The Raiders still kept six total backs, but the perception is that the new coaching staff is not enthralled with starter Josh Jacobs.

White was picked in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but offers upside relative to other reserves like Brandon Bolden and Ameer Abdullah. Georgia running backs have had early success in the league recently with others like Nick Chubb and D’Andre Swift stepping into lead roles with the Browns and Lions, respectively. White finished with just 75 receiving yards in his final season at Georgia, but had 31 yards on six catches in the preseason alone. The model projects that White will finish with as much or more Fantasy production than others commonly drafted ahead of him, like Darrell Henderson, Isaiah Pacheco or Alexander MattisonSee more Fantasy football breakouts 2022 here.

Top 2022 Fantasy football busts

As for players to avoid, the model lists Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson as one of its 2022 Fantasy football busts. As a third-year player, Hockenson ranked sixth among tight ends in Fantasy points through Week 13 before missing the rest of the season (thumb). He finished with a 61-583-4 receiving line, but the Lions loaded up with pass-catchers in the offseason, which could reduce Hockenson’s target share.

Detroit signed D.J. Chark and Josh Reynolds, while making Jameson Williams a first-round pick. The team wants to take more downfield shots, as the Lions ranked 30th with 9.8 yards per completion last year. Much of that was due to short passes to Hockenson, but many of those could be eliminated from the playbook. The model has the tight end outside the top 10 in its 2022 Fantasy football TE rankings behind Mike Gesicki, who is being drafted 17 spots later on average. See more Fantasy football busts 2022 here.
