Fantasy Football Rankings 2022: Breakouts from model that nailed Jaylen Waddle’s big season

Any experienced Fantasy player knows that identifying and drafting ascending players before they hit it big will be a key component to a winning 2022 Fantasy football strategy. Those who saw star potential in the likes of Deebo Samuel, Diontae Johnson and Dawson Knox last year were rewarded once the season played out. Who will be this year’s version of those players by becoming one of the 2022 Fantasy football breakouts? Promising players in the 2022 Fantasy football rankings entering their third year include Brandon Aiyuk, D’Andre Swift and Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Which of them could exceed their 2022 Fantasy football ADP, and who are you better off staying away from with your 2022 Fantasy football picks? Before putting together your 2022 Fantasy football draft strategy, be sure to check out the 2022 Fantasy football cheat sheets from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Last year, SportsLine’s model accurately predicted that Dolphins rookie wide receiver Jaylen Waddle was being dramatically undervalued. He was being drafted around the same time as receivers such as Corey Davis, Tyler Boyd and Will Fuller, but the model predicted that Waddle would outproduce all of them and be a key breakout for Fantasy football lineups. The result: Waddle put together a strong 104-1015-6 receiving line and was a top-20 Fantasy receiver.

The same model has a proven track record providing Fantasy football tips, also identifying A.J. Brown as a sleeper in 2020 and players like Julio Jones and JuJu Smith-Schuster as Fantasy football busts last season. Additionally, it’s called past Fantasy football sleepers like Derrick Henry in 2019, Christian McCaffrey and Alvin Kamara in 2018, and Davante Adams in 2017. Anybody who banked on players like those made a run at their league title.

The model is powered by the same people who generated projections for all three major Fantasy sites, and it beat human experts last season when there was a big difference in ranking. The projections update multiple times daily, so you’re always getting the best Fantasy football advice.

Now, SportsLine has simulated the entire NFL season 10,000 times and released its latest Fantasy football rankings 2022, along with plenty of sleepers, breakouts and busts. Head to SportsLine now to see them

Top 2022 Fantasy football breakouts

One of the 2022 Fantasy football breakouts the model is predicting: Steelers wide receiver George Pickens. The former five-star recruit was Freshman All-SEC at Georgia before the COVID-19 pandemic. A torn ACL robbed him of over half his career with the Bulldogs, but the Steelers still saw enough to make Pickens a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

While a career isn’t made out of training camp highlights and preseason performances, Pickens has created plenty of reasons to be optimistic early in his career. He caught three passes for 43 yards and a touchdown in his preseason debut against the Seahawks and has gone viral for leaping over a defender during a drill in camp. More importantly, he’s moved up to No. 3 on the depth chart and appears in line to start alongside Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool. That’s why the model ranks him ahead of veterans like Gabriel Davis and Allen Lazard, who are being drafted at least three rounds earlier on average.

Another breakout that SportsLine’s Fantasy football rankings 2022 have identified: Broncos tight end Albert Okwuegbunam. The third-year player is now an every down contributor after Denver traded away Noah Fant as part of the deal to acquire Russell Wilson. Albert O, as he’s called, posted a 33-330-2 stat line last year while starting just six games and playing in one of the league’s most conservative passing offenses.

The model liked Okwuegbunam breaking out this year even before wide receiver Tim Patrick was lost for the season. The 6-foot-4 Patrick was Denver’s primary red zone threat and led the team in receiving touchdowns the last two seasons. Okwuegbunam could assume many of the red zone routes Patrick ran while still being a primary option for Wilson in between the 20s. See which other Fantasy football breakouts 2022 to target here.
