The 2022 MLB season continues on Thursday and MLB daily Fantasy players won’t have a large number of upper-echelon starting pitching options with several teams off and the schedule split between day and night games. Zack Wheeler and Dylan Cease are the two highest-profile starters in the MLB DFS player pool. Wheeler is coming off a year where he finished second in NL Cy Young voting and Cease has emerged as an early AL Cy Young contender with a 2.38 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 34 innings. But which has the better matchup on Thursday night as they take on two of baseball’s best teams?
Cease will take on a loaded Yankees lineup and the Bronx Bombers are 22-8 on the year while Wheeler draws the Dodgers (20-9). Without a large number of options for your MLB DFS lineups on Thursday, it will be all about isolating matchups and using potentially productive MLB DFS stacks to your advantage. Before you make your MLB DFS picks for Thursday, be sure to check out the MLB DFS advice, strategy and projections from SportsLine daily Fantasy expert Mike McClure.
McClure is a daily Fantasy pro who has won almost $2 million in his career. And when it comes to daily Fantasy baseball, McClure is at his best. Recognized in the book “Fantasy Football (and Baseball) for Smart People: How to Turn Your Hobby into a Fortune” as a top MLB DFS player, McClure’s proprietary projection model simulates each game 10,000 times, taking factors such as matchups and recent results into account. This allows him to find the best values on every site.
On Wednesday, he highlighted Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt in his top MLB DFS picks on both FanDuel and DraftKings. The result: Goldschmidt went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored to return 18 points on DraftKings and 25.7 points on FanDuel. Anybody that included him in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.
Now, as the 2022 MLB season continues, McClure has locked in his top MLB daily Fantasy picks for Thursday, May 12. Head to SportsLine now to see them.
McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Thursday, May 12, 2022
One of McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Thursday is Rangers shortstop Corey Seager. After seven seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Seager signed a 10-year, $325 million contract to come to Texas this offseason and it’s been an up-and-down start for the two-time All-Star.
However, he snapped an 0-for-15 streak with a two-homer game on Tuesday and then followed it up with another home run on Wednesday. Those three big flies in two days were enough to raise his OPS by 100 points and he now has seven home runs and 16 RBI on the season. On Thursday, he’ll match up with Royals right-hander Jon Heasley, who has given up three home runs in 14.2 innings of work already this year.
Another part of McClure’s optimal MLB DFS strategy includes rostering Pirates outfielder Ben Gamel. The 30-year-old is already on his fifth MLB team in his seventh year of service but he serves a utility as a left-handed outfielder with occasional pop and he’s been hitting the ball really well thus far in 2022.
Gamel is slashing .290/.371/.441 with two home runs and 14 RBI over 105 plate appearances this season and in the month of May, he has an impressive 1.119 OPS. On Thursday, he’ll match up with Reds starter Connor Overton, who he went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI against just five days ago.
How to set your MLB DFS lineups for Thursday, May 12, 2022
