Matt Frevola and Genaro Valdez showed up at UFC 270 ready to throw all caution to the wind. The end result was a wild brawl in Anaheim, California, that came to an end when Frevola was able to score a first-round TKO.

Both men came out of their corners firing power shots from the opening bell. It was Frevola who was able to land the more meaningful shots, however, including using a heavy leg kick and a spinning back kick that gave Valdez a few extra elements to consider when engaging.

Soon, Frevola scored a massive right hand that led to the first knockdown of the fight. Valdez was not about to stay down, managing to battle back to his feet. That didn’t stop the onslaught of power shots from Frevola, however, even as Valdez tried to fire back with his own wild punches.

Frevola was credited with four knockdowns in the round, with Valdez fighting back to his feet over and over. Eventually, Frevola’s pressure was simply too much and he was able to take Valdez’s back and fire away with punches until referee Mike Beltran was forced to call a halt to the action before four minutes had passed.

The loss is the first of Valdez’s career. He entered the fight with a perfect 10-0 record, all 10 wins by stoppage.

Frevola snapped a two-fight losing skid with the TKO victory, getting back in the win column after having suffered a seven-second knockout loss in his previous outing.
